Frederik Collett «From Storgaten», 1893: 1 комментарий
Frederik Collett must have been on the upper floor of one of the buildings behind you when he painted this scene. The thoroughfare is a powerful diagonal, taking us into the scene; whilst the hazy air, the dirty snow and the person with the umbrella on the left may indicate that we are witnessing one of winter’s mild weather days. The normally colourful buildings are mixed together in the haze and given a bluish tone, softening the details.
The building in the middle of the image (where today Elvegata meets Storgata) was erected when Lillehammer was established in 1827. Originally, there was a tavern on the ground floor and the town’s meeting room, the Listadsalen, was situated on the upper floor. It was here that the locals partook in dances, as well as holding lectures, speeches and debates. Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson and Christopher Bruun were among those who graced the platform here and delivered their blazing speeches. Unfortunately, the building burned down in 2016.
