William Downes describes this work as being ‘a half-length portrait of a lovely chubby maid holding a doll… a charmingly ingenious head, with straight hair falling over the ears and stray locks coming down over the forehead: spontaneously and rapidly brushed with a light touch, it illustrates Chase’s verve.'»
